Your body isn’t fighting you—it’s protecting you.
So many clients come in and talk about their pain like they are at war with their bodies. They want to fight the pain away. They want to have the deepest pressure possible to force it out of their bodies. They think that more intensity = more results.
However, sometimes more pressure can actually just reinforce bracing patterns that the body has, keeping muscles contracted and tight and not achieve anything except keeping the nervous system in fight or flight.
Chronic pain persists not just because of the tissues themselves, but because the nervous system has been carrying stress, protection, or emotions that haven’t had space to be acknowledged or processed.
Pain can feel incredibly frustrating and demoralizing, and can put us into the mindset of thinking that our bodies are doing this TO us, and that we need to fix it, do more and attack it from all angles to make it go away.
But through the pain, your body is trying to communicate where it needs more attention, more awareness, and more connection.
Your body holds so many stories — and some stories it protects you from until you are ready to feel them with compassion, with patience and with understanding and NOT force.
Until we actually start listening instead of throwing mental solutions at it and a bunch of pressure that it braces against, is when we actually start to see it soften and change.
So instead of pushing yourself to go harder, do more and ask for more pressure, pause and ask yourself — what story has my body been holding lately?
What has my body been trying to protect me from?
Getting honest with yourself and where your body is at is the most loving thing you can do for yourself — pain has a deeper story that is worth listening to.
We don’t heal by fighting our bodies and working AGAINST it.
We heal by learning to listen and working WITH it.
Somatic therapy-informed bodywork creates the safety for your body to tell its story—at its own pace.
